Cardiology
is the medical study of the diagnosis and treatment of disease
affecting the heart and blood vessels.
Cardiologists subspecialize in the treatment of cardiovascular
disease and diseases of the heart, lungs, and blood vessels.
They also manage complex cardiac conditions such as heart
attacks and life-threatening, abnormal heartbeat rhythm. They
often perform complicated diagnostic procedures such as cardiac
catheterization and consult with surgeons on heart surgery.
Cardiologists have training and experience with in the
evaluation and management of a wide variety of patients with
acute and chronic cardiovascular conditions including chronic
coronary heart disease, congestive heart failure, arrhythmias,
acute myocardial infarction, and other ischemic syndromes. |
